WELCOME TO SHOREFIELDS TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE

John Charnock - Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

I am delighted to welcome you to Shorefields Technology College, a dynamic, vibrant school situated close to the centre of Liverpool. The recent developments at Shorefields match the exciting progress that Liverpool has made as the city strides towards the Capital of Culture 2008.

Developments

2007 has seen the completion of the major refurbishment works with all the Tower Block windows finally being replaced. The CLC continues to develop with new state-of-the-art equipment in each of its suites and an increasing number of our partner schools using the facilities. The latest developments on the Dingle Swings area at the bottom of Dingle Vale are progressing rapidly and this facility with its all-weather pitch, large tarmac area and new changing rooms will soon be available to both the school population and the local community.

Opportunities

We are delighted that we continue to attract large numbers of students both into Year 7 and 12 at the start of the academic year and across the age range throughout the year. The courses we are able to offer continue to develop; we have added a number of B. Tech courses to our options which are all multiple GCSE courses and, for the first time this year, students starting Year 9 had an option choice and many of them began GCSE courses in the core subjects. This pattern will be followed with further choices for them at the start of Year 10 and, where they have been successful at GCSE in Year 10, at the start of Year 11.

Results

2008 saw the 6th year of continuous improvement at GCSE. We achieved 45% 5A*-C grades and 22% 5A*-C including English and Maths. The 6th Form students continued to achieve above expectations in a wide range of courses and we anticipate this progress to continue with the current year 11s and 12s.

Collaboration

We continue to work closely with our partner schools in both the Learning Network and the 14 - 19 collaborative. This means we have links with all the young people studying in our area from the age of 5 upwards. Further, it widens the range of opportunities for all those students as they progress through their school career so no options are excluded for them.

Every Child Matters

The headline education issues are all based around the five tenets of Every Child Matters;
1. Be Healthy
2. Stay Safe
3. Enjoy and achieve.
4. Make a positive contribution.
5. Achieve economic well being.

Shorefields vigorously supports and promotes these.
