Science (2 Year Course)

For A.V.C.E. (Double Award) Science a candidate must complete 12 Units, 6 of which are compulsory. For A.V.C.E. (Singe Award) Science a candidate must complete 6 compulsory Units.

Progression

The A.V.C.E. in Science enables students to develop a broad understanding of scientific principles as a foundation both for training, leading to employment, and for further and higher education.

Assessment procedures

• Internally assessed portfolio of evidence.
• Externally set and assessed units.

All parts must be completed to achieve full accreditation.

Teaching and Learning styles

Pupils will be required to carry out independent research and investigations, both laboratory based and industry based. Teaching will vary from didactic, supported self-study, practical work and guided investigational activities. Group and individual tutorials will be given. Progress throughout the course will be monitored and targets will be set.

Equivalence

• The Double Award A.V.C.E. Science is equivalent to 2 'A' Levels and is worth 240 U.C.A.S. points.
• The Single Award A.V.C.E. Science is equivalent to 1 'A' Level.

Course Entrance Requirements

Applicants will require 5 G.C.S.E's. Two G.C.S.E's must be Science, Grade 'B' or above. English, Maths and another subject at Grade 'C' or above.
