Manufacturing (2 Year Course)

Content

Unit based Portfolio of evidence, made up of 6 COMPULSORY UNITS and 6 OPTIONAL UNITS to be chosen from a prescribed menu.

Progression

The content of these courses is designed to give the student sufficient knowledge and skill to enable them to progress into Higher Education or employment in manufacturing enterprises.

Assessment procedures

• Internally assessed portfolio of evidence.
• Externally set and assessed units.
• 5 Externally set and assessed unit tests.

All parts must be completed to achieve full accreditation.

Teaching and Learning styles

Varies from didactic, to facilitating, to instruction, to role playing and supported self study. Independent research and investigative skills are crucial to the success of the course, as is an ability to plan time effectively and develop individual practical skills. Group and personal tutorials will be given to monitor progress and agree targets.

Equivalence

U.C.A.S. Points for University entrance, same as 2 traditional 'A' levels, now called A2's - 240 points.

Course Entrance Requirements

Broadly speaking 4 'C's' at G.C.S.E. preferably including Design Technology, Maths and English. I.T./C.A.D./C.A.M. competence is also an advantage.
