A student’s time in the 6th Form should be both exciting and informative.
The 6th Form at Shorefields aim to provide a stable, caring environment for what is a period of rapid development for the individual and to provide time for exploring opportunities which will enable students to acquire the necessary skills and qualifications with which to meet the challenge and demands of the outside world. For this reason Shorefields 6th form has a strong vocational bias.
There are some formal academic requirements for entry to Year 12, although each applicant is judged on his or her merits and needs. We are, however, committed to ensuring that all 6th Form students follow courses which most meet their needs and for which they are suitably qualified. Course suitability must be discussed with the subject staff and Ms. Brown, or one of her colleagues. The entry procedure is designed to help prospective students to make realistic decisions. Each course will be, as far as is possible, tailored to meet the needs and abilities of each individual applicant. Prospective Year 12 students must be prepared to accept advice given by professions and accept the standards and personal discipline required to make the most of their potential.
At Shorefields the Head of Year 12, Ms. Julia Brown, has overall responsibility for the organisation and day-to-day running of 6th Form. She is assisted by a team of Tutors, who meet regularly to discuss general progress and more specific problems as they arise.
he students also participate in the running of Year 12 through the Year 12 Committee, which comprises elected representatives of the tutor groups, together with several nominated members. The Committee serves as a forum for debate and channels information to students. Some students are expected to sit on the School Council.
