Parental Authorisation

BTEC LEVEL 2 FIRST DIPLOMA IN HOSPITALITY

This is a one year course, and comprises 6 units of work.

Core Units

1. Exploring the Hospitality Industry.

  • Customer relations in Hospitality.
  • Safety in Hospitality.

Specialist Units

4. Planning and running a Hospitality event.
5. Healthy Lifestyles.

  • Developing employability skills for Hospitality

and related Industries.
7. Basic Culinary skills.
8. Serving Food and Drink.

  • Accommodation and the front office.

Progression

The natural progression from this would be onto the BTEC Nationals (Level 3), of which there are many related courses. Visit:

The main National Diplomas are:

  • Hospitality
  • Hospiltality Management
  • Catering (Hospitality)

Assessment Procedures

All Units are assessed and verified internally (with the exception of one unit, which is verified externally). There are no exams. There is a 3 point grading system for each unit: Pass, Merit or Distinction, and each has its own criteria to meet. Points will be allocated accordingly.

Teaching and Learning Styles

The course is vocational and, as such, every effort will be made to use appropriate work/training providers. The teaching styles will vary from didactic, to facilitating, to instruction, role play and supported self study. Individual and group tutorials will be given in order to help students reach their agreed targets.

Course Entrance Requirements

  • A BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate / Diploma.
  • A standard of literacy and numeracy, supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs D-E
  • Other related level 1 or 2 courses.
  • Recommendation from Head of Faculty.
