Developing Mature Attitudes

The Sixth Form very effectively helps students to develop mature attitudes and achieve well. The Shorefields Sixth Form is a Centre of Excellence for GNVQ. We are proud of our formal links with City of Liverpool Community College and the Faiths Collaborate from where our 'A' level students progress to University.

The school Sixth Form is small, but expanding annually, both in numbers and subject availability. It specialises in vocational courses and has, over the last five years, enjoyed examination success well above the national average.

A 'Half Way House' Between School and University

The school aims to make the Sixth Form a 'half way house' between school and university and encourages independent study with a strict system of monitoring. It also aims to motivate young people into wanting to work and therefore, linked directly to their courses, provides learning opportunities with companies like, Manchester Airport , The Marriott Hotel, The David Lloyd Centre and Max Speilman as well as having an established curriculum link with Liverpool City College . Study visits to New York and Canada have been very successful as was the trip in the Spring to Barcelona which enhanced the Art and Design work. This year our sixth form students will have the unique opportunity to visit South Africa to further their studies.

A full programme of extra curricular activities is offered through the P.E. department such as ice skating, ski-ing and canoeing, together with the more traditional aspects of P.E. A summer camping trip also takes place after exams, where problem solving and challenges are set.

The pastoral system is supported by the Head of 6th Form, four tutors and an upper school pastoral worker.

The Sixth Form have a new suite of rooms under the refurbishment initiative. This helps to create a safe environment with a strong working ethos which is underpinned by high expectations of discipline and basic standards.
