CHARITY COLLECTION

Each term the school has a collection for a range of charities. Students are involved in the decision as to which is the most appropriate charity and in the collection process. All students should participate in these worthy causes.

RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS

We are pleased to be able to celebrate all religious festivals in our school. Non-Christian festivals do sometimes occur during school time. An allowance of two days absence for such occasions is permitted without effecting pupil attendance percentage.

LEARNING SUPPORT

Special Needs

All children are welcome in the school whatever their special need. Any relevant help, support and teaching will be given, as far as possible, in co-operation with the L.A.

Children with learning difficulties are taught English in small groups of between 2 to 12 by specialist teachers in all years. Differentiated work is also provided across the curriculum and a variety of courses to suit differing ability levels are available in many subjects for Years 9, 10 and 11.

The school uses all the external agencies available such as the Special Education Needs Support Service and Educational Psychologist. Higher education students and interested informed adults are used to give individual attention to those who would benefit from such intensive help. There has been a significant increase in the number of trained Classroom Assistants in order to maximise student assistance.

A Strong Pastoral System

We have a strong pastoral system which ensures that problems which might arise are quickly discussed, and practical intervention and support given. We aim to ensure that our pupils 'succeed' in school every day, thus developing a continuing sense of worth and raising of selfesteem. Each child is special and valued for him/herself.

Bilingual learners are given particular attention in a scheme involving small group teaching as well as mainstream support. Shorefields works closely with the Liverpool Bilingual Advisory Service.
