CHARITY COLLECTION

Each term the school has a collection for a range of charities. Students are involved in the decision as to which is the most appropriate charity and in the collection process. All students should participate in these worthy causes.

RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS

We are pleased to be able to celebrate all religious festivals in our school. Non-Christian festivals do sometimes occur during school time. An allowance of two days absence for such occasions is permitted without effecting pupil attendance percentage.

Guidelines for Parents

Students at Shorefields should expect to do homework as part of their education.

Why homework?

  1. To establish that education continues beyond school and 3.00 pm
  2. To complete and reinforce work done in lessons
  3. To train young people to study on their own which will be valuable in the future
  4. To motivate and to challenge
  5. To research, find things out and prepare for coming lessons

What sort of homework?

A range of possible activities:

  • Revision/learning
  • Research/visits to libraries
  • Reading/watching/preparation
  • Finishing off/writing up
  • Conducting experiments
  • Seeing people
  • Practice
  • Coursework Assignments

How often?

In years 7,8,9, students should expect homework each week in many subjects.

In years 10 and 11 students should expect homework each week in every examination subject. In addition, they must expect to do GCSE coursework outside normal lesson time.

A working arrangement

Students must:

  • keep a copy of their homework timetable;
  • make a record of all homework set;
  • complete homework on time and to the right standard

Subject teachers will:

  • set appropriate work and provide the necessary resources;
  • keep a record of work done;
  • mark or review each piece of homework;
  • take disciplinary steps if homework is not done

We ask Parents to:

  • discuss and show interest in the tasks students are doing;
  • try to provide a suitable place to do homework.

If parents are unhappy about homework practices, they should contact the appropriate Head of Year who will refer them to necessary Heads of Faculty or Department.
