Book Review

A book review competition was held from the library, during the week of the 14th and the 18th November. Pupils were encouraged to complete a review on their favourite book. The library received a large number of entries and the competition was tough, as the standard of the entries was high. The entries were judged by an independent judicator. After a long deliberation, it was decided that there were two distinct winners. Coincidentally the winners were both from Wilberforce house.

They were Alessio Kandiah, 8:B and Manish Ram, 7:A. Alessio reviewed “Attack of the paper bats” by Michael Dahl. He wrote a wonderful synopsis of the book that left us wanting to read the book ourselves. He gave the book 10 out of 10 for enjoyment. Manish reviewed “Beast Quest: The Golden Armour: Soltra” by Adam Blade. He described in beautiful detail the plot of the story and explained how “Tom was my favourite character because he had extraordinary powers”.

This is not Manish’ first literacy achievement this term. He recently won a £20.00 voucher when entering a Bonfire night word search competition run by CAPTIA, a local firm. Both boys had made an excellent effort with their book reviews and were rewarded for their efforts with a £10:00 book voucher. Well done boys!

Students should continue to complete book reviews as there is a monthly competition for the best book reviews. Forms can be collected from the library and handed back in when complete. Get writing!
