On Tuesday the 14th December 32 of our students went to the Royal School for the Blind to perform a Christmas Concert. The students who are members of the choir and orchestra performed a selection of Christmas carols, songs, and some pieces not normally associated with Christmas with some students performing solos. All of the students were excellent, and a real credit to Shorefields.
Just before we performed the last song, the orchestra left their seats and went to play for the RSB pupils close up, so they could hear the instruments. The choir also went to talk to the pupils, who were thrilled to be able to meet the musicians. The enjoyment on the RSB pupils’ faces was wonderful, and the experience moved all of the Shorefields students and lead to the RSB staff commenting on how natural and at ease the pupils of both schools were with each other.
We then finished off with a final piece and sang, “We wish you a Merry Christmas,” several of the RSB pupils came up to ask when we would be back, as did the school’s Deputy Head. We hope to return for a summer concert at the school.
Many thanks to all the students and staff involved (Mr Carmichael, Mr Noyce and Mrs Bradley). You were superb!
