Careers - The World of Work

Careers Education forms part of the PSHE course and tutorial work and specific units deal with the decisions which students need to take in choosing courses as well as giving background to the world of work. All students go on to work experience in their final year.

The Careers Officer comes to school frequently and parents are invited to attend the interview given to each student in year 11. For Post 16 students there is a separate programme of guidance and work sampling at an appropriate level.

THE CURRICULUM - RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Shorefields Technology College

The department is currently located on the first floor of the main building at Shorefields. D16 and V11 offer a stimulating environment, where students feel comfortable discussing and exploring issues within their respective courses.

We welcome all students into the department. We believe in respect and celebration of the beliefs and lifestyles of all members of the school and the wider community.

Our department has included students of all religions, and those who have no religious conviction. We all have a valuable contribution to make to society.

Key Stage 3

Students examine aspects of Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam in accordance with the Liverpool Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education.

A wide variety of teaching methods are employed, for example, group discussion, music appreciation, video, individual written work, questioning of visiting speakers and examining religious artefacts.

Key Stage 4

Students follow a course exploring Contemporary Moral Issues. Information is presented in a variety of stimulating ways including references to teachings from the major religions, extracts from newspapers and magazines, and current affairs as presented in television and radio news and documentaries.

The course is ideal for RE, Citizenship and PSHE work. The students look at a range of topics, such as: human and animal rights, poverty, racism, abortion, euthanasia and medical ethics.

Key Stage 5

The course is designed to allow study themes relating to moral issues, personal development and citizenship.

We welcome visiting speakers from a variety of faith and community backgrounds to present their personal viewpoints on chosen issues. The students are also allowed to choose issues that they wish to discuss.
