THE WORLD OF WORK
Careers Education forms part of the PSHE course and tutorial work and specific units deal with the decisions which students need to take in choosing courses as well as giving background to the world of work. All students go on to work experience in their final year.
The Careers Officer comes to school frequently and parents are invited to attend the interview given to each student in year 11. For Post 16 students there is a separate programme of guidance and work sampling at an appropriate level.
The Curriculum - Design & Technology
The Design and Technology Department aims:
- To encourage students to work to deadlines, keep to budgets and to reconcile conflicting requirements such as quality, speed, cost and environmental implications. To improve students understanding of the significance of Technology to the economy and to everyday life.
- To foster awareness, understanding and expertise in those areas of creative activity which can be expressed through investigation and research, planning, designing, making and evaluating, working with materials and tools and the analysis of products and systems.
- To develop communication skills that will enable students to tackle complex tasks with a clarity to express ideas and a confidence to communicate those ideas.
- To promote the development of curiosity, ingenuity, resourcefulness and discrimination.
- To develop competence in literacy, numeracy and communication.
- To develop an awareness and understanding of how ICT is used in industry and a capability to use relevant ICT including CAD/CAM
- To encourage the students to be discerning consumers of the present and the future.
- To increase employability.
