Careers - The World of Work
Careers Education forms part of the PSHE course and tutorial work and specific units deal with the decisions which students need to take in choosing courses as well as giving background to the world of work. All students go on to work experience in their final year.
The Careers Officer comes to school frequently and parents are invited to attend the interview given to each student in year 11. For Post 16 students there is a separate programme of guidance and work sampling at an appropriate level.
THE CURRICULUM - ART
Art is one of the most popular subjects amongst the pupils at Shorefields Technology College.
The overall objective of the department is to progress students to a level where they are self sustaining and independent students of art and design, with awareness and understanding of art's cultural heritage.
It is anticipated that in years 7,8 and 9, teacher intensive approaches may be the norm and that as skills and concepts are acquired the approach will become more learner intensive.
It is envisaged that more than one method or approach could be incorporated into an assignment, or even a lesson. Art teachers/Student art teachers are encouraged to experiment with different methods in their efforts to maximise learning effectiveness.
The aims and objectives have been devised to constitute essential skills, concepts and attributes to be acquired by pupils during the course of their art and design education. Every attempt will be made to ensure that no student is disadvantaged due to aspects of gender, racial heritage or restraints which are outside the department's control.
Shorefields art department aims to provide a comprehensive visual education for all the age and ability ranges of our pupils, which enables the individual to realise their creative intentions.
