Our School

Shorefields School is an 11-18 secondary community comprehensive school set in a unique position, adjacent to the River Mersey, with clear views of the Welsh mountains.

The extensive building work has seen the total transformation of the school facilities. Significant new building work, along with the refurbishment of the remainder of the school has created an outstanding environment in which children can develop their potential.

The extensive grounds are well maintained and help to provide a safe and pleasant working environment. Shorefields School has a long standing and well established tradition of providing quality education for the community it serves and for many years, the school has served the local community well. ‘There are stong and effective links with the community’ OFSTED 2003

Public transport provides an excellent service, with regular buses to all parts of the city. There are also school buses provided in the morning and after school which are used by a large number of our students. There is also a Merseyrail station within easy walking distance of the school, at St. Michaels-in-the-Hamlet.

Recent years have seen a wide variety of new housing developments in South Liverpool, ranging from the Albert Dock to Shorefields Village and the school provides a focal point for these areas.

High Expectations

The importance of good behaviour and high standards of self-discipline and self-control cannot be over emphasised, and the role that parents play in this is very important. Students are expected to be punctual, to attend regularly and to wear school uniform. Again, parents are the most important people in ensuring that their children fulfil these basic, yet very important requirements.

Parents can help with homework by ensuring that a quiet place to study is available in the home and that they take an interest in their child’s school work by asking to see their books and visiting the school on parents’ evenings, open days and other occasions throughout the year. Many parents visit the school to meet with staff and to discuss the progress of their children.

The school has an active Parent and Staff Association to which all are welcome to join and participate in. OFSTED said that ‘the school fosters good links with parents, who value the quality of information they receive’.

We have homework facilities available in school every night and staff monitor homework, as well as other standards, very closely.
